Design is a permission engine...

For me, it’s an expression of curiosity, imagination and craft that, regardless of surface or object, improves people’s lives.

My design perspective

Early in my career, I would have started this section with a statement like, “design is simplicity” or a similar declaration. And while sometimes simplicity can be used to describe an artifact, I’d like to briefly share how my design perspective has evolved over time.

Beyond it’s role in creating product experiences, design is a lifelong practice. For me, design has become an expression of mindfulness, contemplation, and - if done well - an act of service.

It’s an intention based mindset that invites us to gather, examine, understand and imagine. Design allows us to lean into hypotheses and learn from our educated guesses in a measured way.

Every practice is an inner growth process, and though I don’t claim to have mastered every aspect of design over the past 10 years, I’m grateful for every lesson and teacher along the way.
